EUROPEAN ART QUILTS IV
For the fourth time, the European Art Quilt Foundation has organised a juried exhibition of Contemporary European art quilts. The European Art Quilts IV will be opened at LYON, France, in “La Sucrière”, from June 20 till June 24, 2006; then the exhibition will go to Mulhouse, France, for a stay of three months at the Musée de L’Impression sur Etoffes, from June 29 till 30 September 2006. The exhibition will travel to the Textile Museum at Tilburg, the Netherlands, from October 07 till January 29, 2007; and to Textil Forum at Herning, Denmark, from June 07 till September 09, 2007. Negotiations are running with USA, Canada and Hungary. Out of the high quality entries the international jury - consisting of 6 members - selected 50 works from 49 artists. Artists from 15 different countries give an overview of the state of the art in contemporary art quilting in Europe. The contemporary quilts have roots in the patchwork and quilting tradition. Some maintain a grid composition, some have a precise geometric pattern, others focus primarily on textural expression. Some works extend the boundaries of the textile medium. The artists have experimented with other materials than cotton, wool and silk: leather, Tyvek®, copper-wire, plastic and paper and other material have been used for making the quilts. As techniques you can see shibori, painting, dyeing, felting, printing and discharge, and appliqué and embroidery are represented too. A exhibition catalogue in full colour will be available at the exhibition venues and later on also through the European Art Quilt Foundation. We hope to welcome you at some of our venues. June 12th, 2005
Heidi was invited as one of 31 Icelandic artists to participate in the 2nd annual Fine Art show at the NAS Keflavik base. This was an exciting event which also gave the artists themselves an opportunity to meet and socialize. An event like this helps break down barriers in so many ways. Heidi would like to thank both Valerie and Mike for a wonderful weekend.
